Mabon

Mabon altar scene

History & Meaning

The second harvest and, like Ostara, a balance point — day and night equal again, this time tipping toward darkness. Often treated as a Pagan “thanksgiving,” a deliberate pause for gratitude before the descent into winter.

Correspondences

Colors: deep orange, brown, burgundy, gold. Herbs: sage, thyme, rosemary, marigold. Foods: apples, squash, grapes, root vegetables. Crystals: carnelian, smoky quartz, citrine.

Ritual

A gratitude practice: write down what the year's “harvest” has actually been for you — the effort finished, the thing learned, the relationship strengthened — and keep the list as part of your Book of Shadows.

Recipe / Activity

A simple roasted squash soup: butternut or acorn squash, onion, broth, and a little sage — an easy, warming “first cold night” recipe that uses the season's actual harvest.
